Al Shahania secured a fantastic 3-1 away victory over Al Sailiya in Week 9 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Sunday.

Goals from Younes Darwish (20th minute), Saad Al Sowan (56th), and Claudio Vazquez (60th) were enough for the visitors, while Rachid Tiberkanine (42nd) scored for the home side.

Al Sailiya’s hopes of a straightforward encounter were dealt an early blow as Hamad Al Abidi received his marching orders for a tackle from behind on Kesse Amangoua.

It did not take long for Al Shahania to capitalise on their numerical advantage when Younes responded quickest to a corner and struck his header past the motionless opposition goalkeeper.

With the away side on top, 10-man Al Sailiya got a break just prior to half-time when Tiberkanine got on the scoresheet. A sweeping move down the right culminated in a quick exchange of passes before Nadir Belhadj found the reliable head of Rachid to bring the score level at the halfway mark.

A more energetic Al Shahania made their intentions clear straight from the off as they pushed for an early second-half goal. They did not have to wait long as they caught Al Sailiya on the counter-attack with a clever passing move that Saad turned home from close range.

Abdulqadir Adam thought he would got an immediate equaliser. However, Khalifa Al Dossari pulled off a wonderful save to spare his team’s blushes.

Only moments later came the moment of the night as Vazquez ran in on goal and audaciously lobbed the ball over the onrushing keeper from the edge of the area.

The three points will be huge for Al Shahania as the season progresses, while an early red card turned the game on its head for high-flying Al Sailiya.
