Al Sadd got the better of Umm Salal 3-1 in Week 7 of the 2020-21 season QNB Stars League at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Friday.

Akram Afif (35th minute), Santi Cazorla (50th-minute penalty) and substitute Hassan Al Haydous (90+1) scored for Al Sadd, while Roosbeh Mohammed netted Umm Salal’s only goal in the 40th minute.

Al Sadd thus maintained the top position in the table with 19 points following their sixth victory. The Wolves also remained as the only unbeaten team so far in the tournament.

Umm Salal crashed to their fifth defeat and stood on four points.

Al Sadd, who dominated Umm Salal, were in full strength with the return of their players, mainly Qatar internationals, from country duty.

Akram put Al Sadd ahead after half an hour into the game, but Umm Salal drew level through Roosbeh before the break.

Rodrigo Tabata almost scored the second goal for Al Sadd in the last minute of first half with a powerful shot, but goalkeeper Baba Malick was on hand to make a save.

On to the second session and Al Sadd surged ahead through a penalty converted by Cazorla and awarded when Umm Salal’s Omar Yahya fouled Akram.

Umm Salal tried hard for a second equaliser, but in vain.

Instead, Al Sadd made it 3-1 through Al Haydous in stoppage time.
