Al Sadd recorded a comfortable 4-0 victory over a fighting Al Shahania in Week 4 of the QNB Stars League on Sunday.

Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah (third minute), Akram Afif (eighth and 40th minutes) and Boualem Khoukhi (14th) scored the goals for hosts Al Sadd, who stayed on top of the standings with 10 points.

It was Al Sadd’s third victory after four rounds, while promoted Al Shahania stayed on four points.

QNB Stars League top scorer Bounedjah took his personal tally to 11 goals and Akram six.

Bounedjah opened the scoring with a header following an assist from captain Xavi Hernandez.

Akram doubled the lead five minutes afterwards by slotting home a rebound from goalkeeper Khalifa Al Dossari after he fumbled with a Hassan Al Haydous shot.

The young Akram found the mark a second time after Bounedjah set the stage as Al Sadd took the half-time break with a 4-0 lead. In between, Khoukhi had headed in a Xavi corner kick.

Al Sadd continued their domination in the latter part as well even though the scoreline remained the same. The Wolves had 67 per cent of the ball, as the result suggested.

Al Sadd forced eight corners as against Al Shahania’s two.

The Al Shahania goalkeeper made four saves in the game to prevent further damage.

Al Shahania’s best opportunity to reduce the deficit came around the hour mark. Vasquez Luciano set up Saad Hussain and the latter shot over the bar.
