Al Arabi and Umm Salal played out an exciting 1-1 draw in Week 14 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Arabi Stadium on Thursday.

Pierre-Michelle Lasogga gave Al Arabi the lead in the 64th minute, but that was neutralised by Raul Oscar for Umm Salal in the 86th minute.

Al Arabi and Umm Salal now have 19 and nine points respectively.

Al Arabi, coming from back-to-back defeats (1-6 against Al Sadd in their deferred match from Week 5 and 1-3 against Al Duhail last week), thus suffered their sixth defeat in this season’s league competition.

Meanwhile, the hard-earned point was a huge sigh of relief for Umm Salal, who are struggling in the danger zone along with Al Shahania and Al Khor.

Umm Salal, who had overhauled the squad by recruiting a few players in the winter transfer window, reaped the benefit as new recruit Raul earned them the equaliser late into the game by heading in a cross from the right by Mahmoud Al Mawas, the livewire among The Orange Fortress’ ranks.

It was yet another setback for Al Arabi in their bid to get back to the top-four bracket.

Al Arabi had beaten Umm Salal 5-1 in the first leg of 2019-20 QNB Stars League.

The game was evenly fought.

The Al Arabi goal had a narrow escape early in the match as Al Mawas’ header off a corner kick was palmed away by goalkeeper Gregory Gomis.

Aron Gunnarsson controlled Al Arabi’s game from the midfield, while their top scorer Hamdi Harbaoui made forays into the rival goal.

Not long after the second session started, Al Arabi’s Abdulla Marafy saw his shot go over the bar narrowly and Raul sent his shot wide of the target.

Lasogga then volleyed home a rebound off the horizontal after Yousef Abdulrisag hit his rising shot against it.

Al Mawas had come closer to scoring before Raul struck the equaliser.
