Al Sadd beat Al Shahania 4-2 in Week 13 of the 2019-20 QNB Stars League at the Al Sadd Stadium on Saturday.

Hassan Al Haydous (ninth minute), Akram Afif (57th-minute penalty) and Baghdad Bounedjah (90+4 penalty) got into the scoring act for Al Sadd, who were also helped by an own goal by Al Shahania’s Saleh Al Yahri in the 49th minute.

Ahmed Akaichi (third and 65th minutes) scored a double for Al Shahania.

Al Sadd, who had triumphed in the 2020 Qatar Cup last weekend by defeating Al Duhail in the final, now have 27 points following their ninth victory, while Al Shahania remained on eight points after their seventh defeat.

Al Sadd had followed up their Qatar Cup success with a 2-1 win over Al Khor last Tuesday in a QNB Stars League match deferred from Week 7 due to their AFC Champions League commitment.

The Wolves thus stayed on course towards retaining the title even though they are six points adrift of leaders Al Duhail, who had beaten Al Arabi 3-1 earlier.

Al Rayyan are second in the table with 28 points.

New recruit Akaichi gave Al Shahania a surprise lead as early as the third minute, but once Al Sadd settled into their stride, it was invariably them with 64 per cent possession in the first half, where they also forced eight corner kicks to underline their domination.

Al Sadd struck back through Al Haydous in the ninth minute.

Al Yahri’s own goal that came after play resumed in the second half was followed by Akram’s penalty conversion in the 57th minute and Bounedjah’s penalty goal at the death.

Meanwhile, Tunisian striker Akaichi, who joined Al Shahania in the winter transfer window, found their second goal in the 65th minute in a losing cause.

Al Shahania deserved the credit for putting up a stiff resistance against the reigning champions.

Al Sadd had beaten Al Shahania 7-1 in the first leg.
