Al Rayyan’s Michael Laudrup was named the best coach for the month of October, according to the official statistics of QNB Stars League.

Laudrup guided Al Rayyan to an all-win record during the month as they collected full points from three maches, the most notable being the ‘Qatar Clasico’ victory over Al Sadd in the last round. They thus halted their losing streak against Al Sadd, having lost all four encounters between the sides last season.

The other wins were against Al Markhiya and Al Sailiya. Al Rayyan will be up against Qatar SC in the Round 7 Match of the Week on Friday.

Under Laudrup, The Lions scored seven goals and conceded only two. And they are third in the standings with 15, the same number of points as Al Sadd, with one goal separating the two.

Al Rayyan showed technical improvement in all three games. They covered an average distance of 9.5km and made 543 passes out of which 459 were successful. There were 333 short passes, 188 forward passes, 15 crosses and seven shots on target.

The team excelled in attack, taking 16 shots in all and making 58 final-third entries and 31 penalty-area entries. They proved good at defence too, effecting 26 tackles.

The Dane, a legendary player who won league titles with Dutch powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam, Spanish super sides Barcelona and Real Madrid as well as Italian giants Juventus, began his coaching career as the assistant manager of Denmark national team. He then managed his former club Brondby, Spain’s Getafe and Premier League club Swansea City before first coming to Qatar to take over erstwhile Lekhwiya in 2014.
