The 2020-21 season QNB Stars League’s Week 2 fixtures, held on Monday, 7th September, and Tuesday, 8th September, with three games on each day, saw five of the six matches produce results with 16 goals being scored totally.

The games were played at the newly-constructed Education City Stadium, Al Gharafa Stadium and Al Ahli Stadium, like in the previous week.

Al Sadd continued to top the table with six points following their 5-1 victory over Al Sailiya, the same margin by which they beat Al Kharaitiyat in their opener, while Al Wakrah stole the limelight as they shocked reigning champions Al Duhail 1-0, with Mohammed Benyettou, one of the top scorers in the 2019-20 season QNB Stars League, scoring the winning goal.

Hassan Al Haydous, Santi Cazorla, Baghdad Bounedjah, Nam Tae-Hee and Ahmed Bader Sayyar scored the goals for Al Sadd. Majdi Siddiq scored for Al Sailiya. New recruit Cazorla thus continued to shine for Al Sadd.

The defeat made Al Duhail slip from second to fourth in the standings.

Al Sailiya too went down the ladder, from seventh to 11th place, while Al Wakrah climbed from ninth to sixth position.

The highly-anticipated game between Al Gharafa and Al Rayyan, who both finished among the top four last season, ended in a 3-1 scoreline in favour of the latter.

Johan Boli and Yacine Brahimi were the scorers and heroes of Al Rayyan, who had dropped two points in their opener after being held 1-1 by Al Sailiya.

Boli scored two goals and Brahimi the other for Al Rayyan. Jonathan Kodjia gave Al Gharafa’s sole reply.

Al Rayyan moved from eighth to third spot with four points, whereas Al Gharafa slipped from third to fifth place as they stood on three points.

Promoted Al Kharaitiyat too made headlines by defeating Qatar SC 2-1. Mohammed Osman scored for Al Kharaitiyat, who were helped by an own goal by Qatar SC’s Kayke Rodriguez. Elmehdi Barrahma scored Qatar SC’s goal.

Al Kharaitiyat gained much ground in the table as they climbed from last to seventh position with three points. Qatar SC slipped from 10th to last spot as they are the only team yet to open their account in terms of points.

Al Ahli too made it big as they beat Al Arabi 2-0. Nabil El Zhar scored for Al Ahli, who were helped by an own goal by Al Arabi’s Hamdi Harbaoui.

The second successive win took Al Ahli to six points, the same as leaders Al Sadd, but The Brigadiers were placed second on goal difference. Al Arabi went down from fifth to ninth position and remained on one point.

In other action, Umm Salal and Al Khor were locked in a goalless draw, both teams remaining on one point and being placed 10th and eighth respectively.
