GATTUSO: "DESERVED WIN, I'M PROUD OF THE PLAYERS"

Gennaro Gattuso heaped praise on his players for their togetherness and battling spirit in the 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad in the Basque Country on Thursday evening:

“It was certainly not an easy win, but we deserved it.

“This game had a big bearing on our chances of getting through the group. I really enjoyed the performance in tactical terms. We were up against a side that is excellent at home and we managed to keep up our intensity throughout.

“We probably could’ve produced more quality, but I’m proud of the players because they always show their commitment and character.

“Despite the changes, we performed with a fast pace, stayed focused and kept our shape, which means the foundations to work on are in place. The lads always give their all and you could see that on the pitch.

“I feel that this squad is mine and the standard is high. I don’t know how far we can go, but I do know that if we continue in this vein, we have a better chance of achieving our targets and then aiming even higher further down the line.”
