The QNB Stars League Week 5 action witnessed exciting results, with a total of 15 goals being scored across five matches. One game was played on 26th September and four were scheduled for 28th September.

The fixtures were rescheduled in consultation with the National Teams Management, taking into consideration the AFC Champions League and on request of the Organising Committee of World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 whose opening ceremony was held on Friday, 27th September.

The Al Sadd vs Al Arabi match, dubbed the Qatar Derby, was deferred to a later date due the former’s AFC Champions League first-leg semifinal against Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal in Doha on 1st October.

Despite not being in action, reigning champions Al Sadd extended their stay at the top with 12 points, followed by Al Arabi (10 points).

More noteworthy was Al Duhail’s surge from fourth to second position following their 1-0 win over Al Shahania, with captain Karim Boudiaf scoring the all-important goal.

The Red Knights have 11 points.

Al Gharafa had a chance to go top provided they beat Al Sailiya. However, The Cheetahs missed it by suffering a 1-3 defeat at the hands of The Peregrines.

Al Gharafa took the lead through Ahmed Alaaeldin as early as the sixth minute, only to see Al Sailiya strike back through Karim Ansari, Boussoufa Mbark and Maher Yousef.

The second victory took Al Sailiya’s points tally to seven and they climbed from ninth to sixth in the table with seven points, while Al Gharafa stood on 10 points and are third. The result also ended Al Gharafa’s unbeaten run.

Al Rayyan stayed fifth with nine points by beating Al Ahli 3-1 in a much-anticipated encounter. It was The Lions’ second victory, whereas Al Ahli crashed to their third defeat and slipped one position to seventh as they remained on six points.

It was a brilliant fightback by Al Rayyan as they fired in three late goals. Abdelaziz Hatem struck twice and Yacine Brahimi once for Al Rayyan after Abdulrasheed Ibrahim given Al Ahli the lead.

Umm Salal and Qatar SC both posted their first win to be on four and three points respectively.

Umm Salal beat Al Wakrah and Qatar SC defeated Al Khor by an identical 2-1 margin.

Yannick Sagbo was Umm Salal’s hero with two goals. The Ivorian striker scored either side of captain Bruno Uvini’s goal for Al Wakrah.

Qatar SC, playing their first match under new coach Wesam Rizik who replaced Spaniard Carlos Alos Ferrer, finally opened their account.

After Ahmed Hammoudan put Al Khor in front very early into the game, Qatar SC were helped by an own goal by Al Khor goalkeeper Rajab Hamza. Ali Awad then sealed victory for The Kings.

Umm Salal and Qatar SC stayed 10th and 11th respectively, while Al Wakrah and Al Khor both slipped one place to eighth and ninth spot respectively.
