Juventus Women set new Italian crowd record for top-of-table clash

Juventus Women beat Fiorentina 1-0 in front of a record crowd for an Italian women's match of 39,027 on Sunday.

The game was the first the team had played at the Allianz Stadium, with the attendance comfortably beating the previous Italian women's match record of 14,000.

Victory saw defending champions Juventus -- who normally play at the club's training centre in Vinovo -- extend their advantage over Fiorentina at the top of Serie A to four points.

The new Italian record comes a week after 60,739 watched the Atletico Madrid women's team lose 2-0 to Barcelona -- the largest crowd to watch a women's club match in Europe.

In January, Athletic Bilbao reported that they had set a European record when 48,121 attended a Spanish Cup match against Atletico Madrid at the San Mames Stadium.

The all-time record attendance for any women's match was set in 1999 when 90,185 people watched the World Cup final between the United States and China at the Rose Bowl, which the U.S. won.

And at the 2012 Olympic final in London, a crowd of 80,203 saw the U.S. beat Japan.
