AC Milan’s 3-0 defeat to Lille in the Europa League on Thursday evening is the first time that an Italian club has lost to a French team in a European competition since 2008.
The Rossoneri are still in a position to qualify from Group H but Les Dogues have jumped into top spot with that win on the third matchday.
According to FootMercato, Lille’s victory against Milan is the first triumph for a Ligue 1 side over a Serie A opponent in 25 European matches.
The last French club to have defeated an Italian one in Europe was Olympique Lyon in November 2008, when they defeated Fiorentina 2-1 in the Champions League.
Lyon also progressed out of Group F with German giants Bayern Munich at the expense of the Gigliati in 2008/09 and the Florentine side had to settle for a spot in the UEFA Cup.
AC Milan will travel to France to play Lille in their next Europa League match on November 26.
